| Adaptive management planning projects use multiparty, multidisciplinary workshops and simulation modeling to facilitate dialogue, negotiation, and planning. However, they have been criticized as a poor medium for conflict resolution. Alternative processes from the conflict resolution tradition, e.g., principled negotiation and sequenced negotiation, address uncertainty and biophysical constraints much less skillfully than does adaptive management. When we evaluate adaptive management planning using conflict resolution practice as a benchmark, we can design better planning procedures. | ABSTRACT: The use of supplements eliminates deficiencies imposed by pasture, increases weight gain in animals and maximizes profits from the activity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance, carcass traits and meat quality of steers in grazing systems that received or did not receive a protein energy supplement at the level of 0.6 % body weight. The experiment lasted 160 days and included 36 Brangus × Zebu animals. Eighteen animals received supplementation and another eighteen did not receive supplementation. Carcasses were evaluated for yield, loin eye area, fat thickness and length. | The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sire breed on performance and feed efficiency in feedlot of crossbred cattle. Steers (n=74) and heifers (n=71) produced along two years by breeding Nellore, ½ Nellore x ½ Angus and ½ Nellore x ½ Caracu cows with Braford (BF), Charbray (CC) and Caracu (CR) sires were raised grazing tropical grasses until 20 months (mo) of age and then finished in feedlot for 4 mo. Animals were kept in individual pens allowing measuring of daily dry matter intake (DMI) during finishing phase in feedlot. | O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver e selecionar linhagens de guandu granífero (GG) e forrageiro (GF) para recomendação de novas cultivares. Cruzamentos manuais, em esquema dialélico, foram realizados para GG e GF, envolvendo oito e cinco parentais, respectivamente. Vinte e cinco cruzamentos GG e 11 cruzamentos GF foram avançados pelo método populacional em bulk, com proteção das flores com saco de tecido não tecido (TNT). Nas gerações F2 e F3 , para o GG, não foram realizadas seleções, enquanto nas gerações F4 , F5 e F6 a intensidade de seleção foi de, aproximadamente, 30%. | It was evaluated the performance and the carcass characteristics of 36 non-castrated male lambs, Santa Inês purebreed and crossbreeds from Dorper × Santa Inês and Texel × Santa Inês, managed in three different systems (intensive, semi-intensive and extensive), slaughtered at 38.41 ± 1.24 kg. It was observed the highest weight gain for lambs reared in intensive system, which also showed the greatest carcass yield. The management systems did not influence carcass measures of animals in intensive system much because of the greater weight of the carcass. The intensive system provided the best performance, regardless the genetic group. The use of Texel and Dorper breeds in crossings with Santa Inês increases carcass yield. |

| The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of genetic group (GG) of the calf during gestation, mobilization of body reserves and period of postpartum anestrus in Nellore cows. Thirty-seven primiparous and multiparous cows were used: 24 gave birth to Nellore (NEL), and 13 gave birth to ½ Simmental × ½ Nellore (SIM) calves. According to the date of calving, cows were divided into three blocks, with intervals of 20 days between blocks. The body condition (BC) of the cows was estimated subjectively on a scale from 0 to 5 points, with intermediate grading of 0.5 points. | This study aimed to investigate the influence of calf genetic group on the performance of Nellore lactating cows. The variables studied included milk ingestion, pasture intake, calf weight gain and cow body weight. A total of 13 Nellore calves and 8 crossbred Simental × Nellore calves were used, all born from Nellore mothers. During the experimental period of 210 days, calves were weighted at birth and at 30-day intervals, whereas cows were weighed every 14 days. Milk intake was estimated using the weigh-suckle-weigh method.
